The Posers

2017

single channel video, sound, 16 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Posers laminates historical moments with contemporary experience to discuss the ongoing marginalization of women and the occlusion of the self in history and in love. The video puts a contemporary artist in conversation via Skype with the forgotten 19th century Parisienne poet Nina De Villard. The artist tells Nina she got engaged in Paris and came to terms with the idea of forever near the Montmartre cemetery. Nina responds that she was buried in the Montmartre cemetery but later disinterred, and that forever is not something anyone can get used to. These convergences of past and present are the backbone of the video.
