Chorion Song is a series of four photographs and two videos featuring miniature figurines posing amidst my placenta from the birth of my first child and my breastmilk. This project blends whimsy and dark humor to capture the contradictions of early motherhood: joy and fatigue, play and responsibility, the tender and grotesque. It is a reflection on the mundanity and the viscerality of this experience. The instrumental soundtracks that accompany the videos echo the lighthearted cues of a sitcom before slipping into something more uneasy, mirroring the surreal strangeness of early parenthood. This project was presented as a solo exhibition at Ivester Contemporary gallery in Austin, Texas. It was reviewed in the Daily Texan.
